My first nappy cake!

My sister in law was due their first baby this weekend just gone but so far no sign of the little fella and being a Pinterest addict I've seen lots of lovely nappy cakes and thought I can do that!  Then Aldi had a baby event so I grabbed the opportunity to pick up some bargains I could use including mamia newborn nappies

I read numerous blogs on how to go about making one and there are a few ways to do it.  I started rolling the size 2 nappies from the waist end and wrapping rubber bands around them, then starting with the bottom tier with 6 nappies and a brush and comb set in the centre to give a little stability then worked a couple of rings around that which just sat nicely on my cake board

I wrapped vests around some of the nappies and rolled a couple of the muslins and used those instead of nappies so there are little surprises inside!

Then I 'iced' the cake I used a fleece blanket for the bottom layer, a towel for the middle tier and a muslin for the top wrapping ribbon around each layer, I picked up some cute buttons which I used to finish it off

Then to decorate I made some cute nappy babies using socks for hats and nappies drawing on sleeping eyes! I also tried making roses with a pair of socks you can just about make them out!

I then added a teddy to the top

Wrapped it all up in cellophane there wax just enough left on the roll ideally I'd have liked a little more but manage to just cover it all tying it with some more ribbon and adding a wooden heart I'd picked up  and used it as a recipe card!

All in all for my first attempt I'm quite pleased with the finished product

This is what I spent

At Aldi baby event

62 mamia newborn size 2 nappies aprox £3.50

3 pairs baby socks 0-3 month £1.50

3 muslin cloths £3.29

1 hooded towel £3.99

1 fleece blanket £2.99

3 vests size 3-6 month £2.99

spent in baby event £18.26

not from Aldi

brush and comb set £1.99

teddy £8.50

I spent more on the teddy than needed to as its for my nephew but still spent less than £30 and have a 3 tier 'cake' with lots of hidden treats inside.  I just hope my sister in law likes it!
