Aldi baby events a review

Its that time of year again and the Aldi Baby and Toddler Event is back on from Thursday the 30th January so its time to stock up on some multipack deals as well as known brand bargains.

This time there are plenty of Nuby products in the event which is a brand we love for their bright coloured products which tick boxes by being both atractive to children but have actual practical uses unlike many novelty items you can pick up these days.

Lets start with bath toys: We have got some bath letters and numbers, they are bright foam shapes which float and stick to the bath wall. They are lightweight so brilliant when the kids are sharing a bath as we don't have to worry about G throwing them at B.  They have many educational uses, we've started using them to teach G colours and sorting them as he's still a bit young for numbers and letters.  These retail most places @£5.99 but Aldi are selling these and other bath toys @ £3.99 which in my opinion is a steal, my only bug bear is picking them all out of bath so we can use the shower.  Note to self need to put bath toy scoop on G's birthday list!

There are also a variety of Nuby teethers on sale @£1.99, we have been testing a Polar Pals polar bear teether. So far this is getting a big thumbs up from us. G never really bothered with any of the hundreds of teething products we bought him but this little polar bear is already getting some use from B. Its small size makes it perfect for tiny fingers and mouths and it can be chilled in the fridge to sooth those aching gums.  You can't go wrong at the price in this Aldi Baby Event even if your child doesn't like it you've not broken the bank.

On top of that there are a variety of Nuby cups and beakers, the Grip and Sip cup was the first cup we used for G when trying to move away from bottles. We liked it because it has a soft spout similar to a teat but G could manage to use it himself.  These are retailing at a specialbuy price of £1.79 so I'd stock up now, as you can never have enough baby cups as they always seem to go missing...well they do in this house anyway.  G also loves his iMonster Snack Keeper so I think we might pick up a flower one for when B's older while they are on offer.

Another brand featured in the Baby and Toddler Event is Tommee Tippee mostly essential basics feeding equipment including bowls, food pots, spoons and first cup.

The bowls are £1.79 for three and the rest retail at an amazing 99p and again you can never have enough of these products they either go missing or get stained or marked from going in the microwave or in the case of the cup teeth marks on the spout.   Our favourites are the food pots as they have so many uses, when first weaning they are the perfect size for freezing small portions, now we use them for freezing individual portions of veg for quick meals for G, for taking snacks out in the change bag and for keeping B's soothers sterile.

You can also get hold of a few Avent products, G has always used their soothers which are going to be on sale @ £2.49.  In the past we've paid up to £4.99 for them, so these are on my shopping list as since G got his big teeth we've been going through them like wildfire.

Another favourite we always pick up at Aldi events are their muslin cloths, we've had plenty in the past but we've found Aldi's to be one of the softest and largest on the market and at only £3.29 for three this is a bargain buy.  Not sure how we coped pre G without muslin cloths in the house and they are an ideal gift for new parents.

For the first time you will be able to get hold of not only Mamia nappy multipacks but also their award winning wipes which work out at costing less than 1p a wipe.

So here's my shopping list: I'm attempting a nappy cake for my Sister-in-law who's due their first baby 15th February and i am going to mostly use products from Aldi - post to follow!

Breastfeeding so why have I got my period

Today B is 11 weeks old she is exclusively breastfed but today my period has returned.  I thought that until you gave up breastfeeding this didn't happen but on researching via the ever knowing google seemingly it can.
Apparently when you are breastfeeding you can ovulate as early as nine weeks after you've given birth with your period returning two weeks later ie 11 weeks as in my case.  According to babycentre you are more likely to get your periods back early if your baby sleeps for periods over four hours during the day or more than six hours at a time at night if you supplement their diet with formula or solid food or if baby has a dummy.  B regularly sleeps through the night from about 11pm till 6-7am so unfortunately this looks like the reason my period has kicked in, as much as I hate all that side of being a woman I love my sleep more and if that's the price I have to pay for a baby who let's me have a good nights sleep then so be it.

Project 365 - day 21

This is this weeks delightful read I've had it on order from the library for ages and it's finally come in.

I'm not really a fan of Gina Ford BUT if this actually works maybe I could warm a little to her.  I'm not entirely sure if G is anywhere near ready but as I'm a complete pottyvirgin I think its best to be prepared and gather knowledge before taking the plunge.

Does anyone have any tips or beads of inspiration that worked for them I think I'm going to need all the help I can get as G is a handful to say the least!

Puddley path along the Wyre estuary

Today we've been for a lovely walk in the Wyre estuary country park, G fell asleep in the car on the way there for about half an hour it was lunchtime when we arrived so we decided to gave our butties before setting off just as G woke up in a foul mood and wobbly legged so when we set off from car park he started off in the pram.

In the country park they have what is known as a 'tramper path' which I needed to google and is apparently some sort of all terrain mobility scooter! So should be pram friendly, luckily we'd gone prepared with Wellies and walking boots as the paths although pretty much flat were full of muddy puddles.  So we got G out and let him loose on the puddles, he loved it splashing and kicking, there was also plenty of boats and dogs for him to point out.

We even saw a little egret!

We made footprints in the mud and compared them to horseshoes.

We had to splash (or as G says 'dip dip') in every puddle ( there were plenty!) and sit on every bench along the path

but I think his little legs started getting tired on the way back and there were a few stumbles including a full face down in one puddle!!!

Somebody stayed asleep the whole way round so missed everything

After all that walking we'd all earned a cream tea in the park's cafe daddy even let G lick out the little jam jar!

Not sure that was the best idea as thinking he would fall asleep again on the way home we had lots of screeching and singing all the way back!  Hopefully he'll sleep tonight!

Chinese New Year egg box dragon

This morning G had a last minute play date so I quickly think of something we could do with what we had in quite a few egg boxes it turned out so turning to the ever so helpful Pinterest I found all sorts of things we could make with them.  I was going to suggest a crocodile but then thinking its Chinese New Year in a couple of weeks so decided on a dragon!

It's been a while since we did any crafty bits at home and it's so nice to see how much G has progressed as you can see he really concentrates and understands most of what you ask of him now and knows what he wants to put where.

Putting glitter on the fire for the dragon!

And here's his finished dragon in G's own words "rah!!!!"

Project 365 - day 15

Today while G was at his nanna's I took B to rock and learn it was lovely doing something together I sometimes feel she misses out a bit as I went to so many things with G.  She absolutely loved it was really giggling when we went on a bear hunt!  The group is run by a lady called Harriet and doesn't let you pay until they are 17weeks old but encourages you to go as early as possible to stimulate the mind.  After half an hour of singing stimulation B was shattered and missed out on some soft play. But at least mummy got some lunch and a brew in peace!

Project 365 - day 14

After B's first time swimming she's all pooped!

B's first swimming lesson

It's been a while since I took G swimming  (about 4weeks before B was due!) and I've been feeling guilty so when my friend said she fancied going swimming to the classes G used to go to I jumped at the chance hoping it would be easier with two of us.

Here's G itching to get in the pool in his new Thomas swimsuit from M&S that nanna and grandad got him for Christmas

We bought B a cute pink suit from Matalan but my friend brought her little boys old wetsuit so I gave that a try!

She absolutely loved being in the water you would never have known it was her first time and the suit was brilliant there was no chattering or shivering.  G enjoyed it too having to have a little more independence and using armbands he did drink a lot of the pool water but he remembered how to blow bubbles in the water and did some kickingm, hopefully now were back into it he'll start progressing.  It would have been extremely hard work had it not been for my friend and the girl running the class who kept taking one of them off me so I could concentrate on one at a time!  On our last lesson the girl running it told us she was leaving so there was another instructor and to be honest it wasn't as structured but for the first time taking two children at once it was just enough!

B and myself got out of the water first while G stayed in the weather for a bit with my friend and her little boy, I got her dressed quickly and popped her in the car seat she started crying but turned round to go get G and then she was off, tired herself out! - worth every penny!!!!
